Christine,
What is the size of all of the files in that CAB folder and what are the
names of the subfolders? If it's not already showing, go to View and click
on the words Status Bar to enable the bar at the bottom. It will tell you
the total size and how much of the drive is free, among other things.
If you're going to use an older computer, make absolutely sure that the
components will support Vista before waiting to lay out your hard earned
cash for it. Vista needs some serious horsepower to enable all of the bells
& whistles. As a side note, I usually suggest that folks wait until a new
OS has been out for at least 6 months before they run it. By then, MS has
worked out most of the more serious bugs and some of the security flaws that
are present in any new program or OS.
As you can see from the post that started this thread, you have several
options for backing up your stuff. If you want to tell me which ones make
the most sense for your situation, I'll try to walk you through the process
and give suggestions for programs you can use to get it done. Of course, if
you choose burning them, you'll need to have a CD-R/RW or DVD burner.
;O)
As far as I know, there's no way to actually save your networking
settings short of writing everything down. Still, that doesn't help you set
it all back up. If I were a programmer, I'd try to write something that
would do this. I bet I'd make more money than that MS guy selling it to the
masses. You might try using the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard". I've
never used it, but it may also save the networking stuff. Still, WinXP is
pretty good at setting up networks, so you might not need to go through any
of this.
Peace,
GMan
