Sometimes, a system can have an issue even trying to start in normal mode.
My best guess is that these problems are caused by either an electrical
spike (caused by your fridge's compressor or some other large motor
switching on or off) that went through your home during a critical part of
the bootup process or there was something that was not properly 'cleaned up'
when windows last shut down (possible causes are almost limitless). If it
only happens once, chalk it up to the computer gremlins and forget about it.
If it's repeatable, then there's an actual problem that has nothing to do
with the above and it needs to be investigated.
