I'm under the impression that it's a fairly new ability for the Java updater to replace the older version instead of keeping all versions on the system. At least I've only noticed it recently. If you are updating from too old of a version, then it won't do it that way. I had the same as you. I too had to use the adobe uninstaller, then restart my notebook afterward to clear all instances of the active x control. As for the Java update, after restarting, the Java updater updated my instance of Java JRE and actually removed an earlier version (this was a first). So perhaps, if you allow the Java updater to update for you it will installed the patched and correct version. Either that or look for your Java installation in the add/remove programs and then look for the same installation on the Java website. Hope this gives you encouragement! ___________reply separator_____________ From: "Sandi Beach" <sandib2@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Adobe Flash Player Update (cont) Date: Sat, 8 Aug 2009 18:18:42 -0500 I went to the Secunia Forums and found that others are having trouble with this update but not specific to IE as my problem is. The fix according to one forum member, is to use the flash player uninstaller. Says it cannot be uninstalled any other way. Then download and install the latest, which is vers. 10.0.32.18. I have the uninstaller on my desktop to run if this is what it takes. Still would like some input from you all or just validation that this is the way to go.
