-=PCTechTalk=- Re: Active X Question

I went to custom Internet Security and enabled Active X as it was checked
disabled. I have been trying to play a DVD that someone gave to me and it
won't play. I did the troubleshooting in Help and tried to download a
decoder as suggested. That took me to a place that required I validate XP
once again, which I did, and required I download the latest Active X, which
I did (took 90 minutes with dialup). Now it seems I have to purchase an
updated Power DVD or some other application in order to get the decoder. I
may be totally lost here! I did see an option to try the latest Power DVD
for 30 days and that is my next step. Is it a part of Windows Media Player
or totally separate? Windows Media player would play a movie that I had
purchased for the grandkids several years ago but it would not play the
second one I purchased at the same time that had never been unwrapped. None
of my media players would play the very new DVD that my friend gave to me.
I tried Media Player, Power DVD, and Quick Time. Power DVD kept asking for
a disk from drive D whereas my DVD drive is Drive E. What's up with that?
I recall seeing some messages about codex with players but this seems to be
a decoder that I am after.
Any help will be appreciated. I don't used the DVD player very often
(obviously) so I don't want to spend money on upgrades.
Sandi
