my laptop has XP Home 2SP [Limey edition]; using NTFS.
the normal use for my 1GB Card is for digi-cam pix, where it is
formatted FAT12.
I frequently download it using a card-reader.
it can be used as a temporary store to transfer text files from
my laptop to a desktop which has W98, FAT32.
to do this I format the card in the laptop where I'm offered a
choice of 'FAT' or 'FAT32' only; I don't get the choice of
formatting in NTFS ?
when I try transferring exe files and other apps, they appear to
drag and drop into the card [FAT32] no problem [i.e.. I can
access them from the cards 'disk letter', while it's still
plugged into the laptop]
the problems occur when plug into the desktop !
I drag and drop into a folder but the transfers 'hang' ?
I left a 2MB file for 4hrs and it was still transferring ?
I have absolutely no problem at all with a 126MB thumbstore !
all the loading and formatting is done on the laptop and it
downloads at an acceptable speed on the desktop. when I format
to empty it the only choice I get is 'fast' or 'full'.
I don't positively know what this format is but an educated
guess is that it is NTFS.
NOW comes the question [at last] - is there a way to force XP to
offer NTFS as an
alternative when I want to format my SD Card ??
any offers ??
