-=PCTechTalk=- RAM + x32 +x64 dual boot WAS: Re: custom built computer

As previously described I triple boot my new HP. On Disk 0 is HP-Vista
x64,on Disk 1 is MS-Vista x64 and MS-XP Pro x32.
My system has 6GB of RAM and the only problem I have experienced is
describedbelow. I have not yet done enough tracking of the problem to
determine exactly when it happens but will post details when I have them.
Since it IS a boot sequence problem, it could be the memory problem you
describe.

When I turn on (once from OFF I think and once from Hibernating XP) the boot
sequence hung. I had to do a hard turn off and back on and everything
bootedas expected (boot menu to select from the three OS to boot to) and
system ran OK.

Since I have been unable to figure out how to Hibernate or Hybrid Hibernate
in Vista x64 I can not yet determine if there is a problem there or not.

My next steps are:

1. Shut down the machine (OFF not hibernate or sleep or standby)
2. Reboot to XP and then Hibernate and then resume.
3. OFF the machine and reboot to MS-Vista (problem may show itself here)
4. Repeat steps above but in step 3 reboot to HP-Vista. Repeat but OFF XP
instead of Hibernate. Repeat but Restart instead of OFF or hibernate.
5. OFF the machine. Boot to MS-Vista. Restart to XP. Restart to HP-Vista.
Restart to MS-Vista. Repeat Restarts in various different sequences.

Any tips or ideas that might save some troubleshooting steps will be
appreciated.

asmuch as you can possibly get since the 64-bit operating system can use
muchmore than 3, 4 or even 8GB of RAM if it's available. In a dual-boot
situation, however, you'll still have to keep the amount of installed memory
at or below the 4GB mark or the 32-bit WinXP OS probably won't be able to
boot.
