-=PCTechTalk=- NEED HELP RIGHT AWAY

I am in dire need of some help and I really hope someone on this list will be 
able to help.
My daughter is taking a college course and needs to have PowerPoint installed 
on her computer.  A classmate gave her a copy of hers to install.
She has a gateway with Win98 and she wants to install PowerPoint Windows XP 
Office System Pack.  
When she went to install  the program, it came up with an errpr message saying 
she needed to  have MDAC 2.5 ODBC Stack which she downloaded and installed.  
Now it comes up with the error message #25 202 Cannot install portions of 
required system files updates for Internet Explorer 5

Can someone tell me how to get this  program installed.  I would be most 
grateful for any and all help.
