-=PCTechTalk=- Moving your My Documents folder

Finally, here my simple tutorial on moving your My Documents folder to
another partition (or anywhere, actually).
Open up Windows Explorer and choose the new location for the My Documents
folder. This location can even be on an external drive, but you MUST make
sure that the drive is plugged in, turned on and functional each and every
time you choose to boot up the system. If you wish to share this folder
among more than one Windows install, make sure that instruction applies to
EVERY instance of Windows that relies on this folder.
Once you have chosen the new location, go to your present My Documents
location, use the RIGHT mouse button to drag it to its new location, let go
of the button and choose Move from the context menu.
That's all there is to it.
Honest! lol
Windows will automatically update the registry to point to the new location
from now on.
If you wish to have a separate Windows installation also point to this
location (multi boot on a single computer or two or more machines sharing
data on a movable or networked external drive), do the same thing for the My
Documents folder that the second (etc.) Windows install normally points to.
Just make sure nothing inside it is going to overwrite anything inside the
one on the external. I usually manually move over everything inside in
advance, renaming as necessary to prevent that from happening.
Peace,
GMan
