I'm running Windows XP Home SP2 with two user accounts, myself and my =
spouse. My spouse rarely ever gets on the computer, but when he does, =
he usually does a Switch User and leaves my programs open. For some =
time now he's been having trouble Logging Off or doing a Switch User =
back to my profile. It logs out and hangs at the blue Windows XP =
screen. Sometimes it sits there indefinitely, and other times it goes =
to a black screen as though it's rebooting, but it's not. The computer =
stays on, and there is no picture on the monitor. Clicking the mouse =
button or doing a CTRL/ALT/DEL does nothing. I end up having to reboot.
I found an article at the following Microsoft page about this problem:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328934
It seems to indicate that Service Pack 2 solves this problem, but I'm =
running Service Pack 2. Here's a quote about the problem:
CAUSE
This problem may occur if a program is running in the context of another =
user who is logged on to the computer. For example, this problem may =
occur if all the following conditions are true, in the order that they =
are presented in: . You log on to the computer as one user.=20
. You switch to another user without logging off as the first user.=20
. You run a program in the context of the first user.=20
. You log off the computer as the second user.=20
OK, so what exactly does it mean when it says "if a program is running =
in the CONTEXT of another user who is logged on?" =20
This is driving me crazy.
