-=PCTechTalk=- HP4530us Display model

Hi
   At store closing time last night, I got a Circuit city special laptop for 
a friend.  It was on display for three days. HP4530us.
   I charged the battery overnight.
   The system boots up just fine BUT the touchpad does not work and I can't 
get into Programs using the usual keys to get to the touchpad's operating 
software.
   The usual ctrl-alt-del brings up a dialog box but nothing I've tried 
activates it.
    I am familiar with WIN98se
   It's running XP Home.
Any help is appreciated.  I want to check out this system before I ship it to 
my friend on Monday so he can give it to his son who deploys for a year to 
the Indian Ocean this coming week.
