-=PCTechTalk=- Fix for Security Center that is turned off and cannot be turned on

While helping me to search for a solution to my OE e-mail problems Gman
directed me to check some settings in the Security Center. I found that the
Security Center was turned off. I did not know how to turn it on so G told me
to go to Administrative Tools, services, and scroll down to Security Center,
double click to turn it on and then click on the Start button (he went into a
lot more detail for my benefit but if anyone needs that information I can give
it to you). When I tried to start the Security Center I got an error message
which said, "Could not start the Security Center service on Local Computer.
Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
G agreed to help me find a solution and I agreed to start looking too. I did a
search with Google using "cannot start Security Center Error 123". The first
hit came up with a little application to fix it. It is wscsvcfix.exe and it
was zipped. I downloaded it unzipped and extracted it with WinZip and ran a
virus scan. Then I set System Restore and proceeded to run the app. When I
opened up the Security Center it has fixed. I was elated as I did not think it
would be that easy. I might add that the download only took seconds and I am
on dialup. And running the app was very fast too.
My little fixit app is sitting in My Documents Folder and my first thought was
to delete it now but on second thought I am going to hold on to it for a while
just in case The Security Center decides to throw a fit again.
Wishing you all happy, healthy computering!
Sandi
