-=PCTechTalk=- Eliminating junk mail (aka SPAM!)

I guess I'm just not "everybody" then, because I hate spam with a passion
and do see it as a reason to change my email address! (But not alla time...)

Greywoulf"s rules for eliminating spam:

1] DO CHANGE your PC email address!! Put random numbers in the middle of it;
at least 3, preferrably 4...! -If it's currently wolf@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, make
it something like wo3795lf@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This will eliminate 100% of the
random bot-generated junk that goes out to any combinations of alpha
letters, as your address now becomes too complicated for these kinds of spam
programs! (Try it, you'll be pleasantly surprised...)

2] Use a web based email address also, such as Yahoo or Hotmail. (I like
Yahoo as it has good filters and a bulk mail box). Any time you buy or order
something, join something (forums, etc), or reply to an outfit you're not
sure of (such as the guvmint?) use this address instead of your own PC
address... Let them get the spam for you, and they will filter out 90% of
it. IMPORTANT: DO NOT give THESE web mail outfits your home PC address
either! Use the same email address they've assigned you, (or another web
email outfit's address) to give to THEM!

3] NEVER, EVER, reply to any random spam with "take me off your list". It's
a dead giveaway that they've reached someone; you've just confirmed it for
them. They'll spam you with it and also sell your address to others to do
the same!

Using this system, (especially the numbers-inna-middle thing) along with
your own personal email program's rules and filters, should eliminate almost
all of the spam from your home PC's personal email boxes.
Namaste,
Greywoulf
