Hi all!
I am stumped!
For as long as I can remember, I have just clicked - (left mouse button) on
a link and a dialog box with Save or Open would appear.
I would then select Save and navigate to the folder in which I wanted the
file downloaded.
The file would then be in that folder and a box would then tell me the
download was complete and I had the option to open the file or close the
dialog box.
Now, if I left click on the link, it immediately starts to download the file
to my temp internet files directory.
The file will then be in that folder and a dialog box opens and tells me the
download was complete and I had the option to open the file or close the
dialog box.
I do not want the zip/rar files going to my temp internet files directory.
I want to have the option to say where they go.
I save my zips for a couple of reasons, but the biggest one is as a spare in
case the program/files..whatever I downloaded gets corrupted or something, I
can restore them.
Now, I have to go search for the zip to be able to store the zip where I
want it. Plus, with WinRar, when you go to unzip a file, the default folder
shows on the line already..and the default is where the zip was downloaded.
This is exactly the file in which I want the files unzipped. This makes
life so easy for me. Now, with the new behavior, I have many more steps to
do and more opportunities to make a mistake! (Who me..make a
mistake...haha! I am more likely to NOT miss an opportunity to make a
mistake!)
In come cases I can right click and get the option to download the file to
the directory I want it, but in most cases I cannot. I many cases, it looks
like I am going to be able to save the file, but when I go to navigate to
the folder in which I want it stored, I see the name of the file is an htm
file and indeed not the zip!
What has made that happen? I do think it started after a Windows update a
couple of weeks ago..maybe 2? In any case, it is frustrating.
Is there some way to rectify this? I have talked to some folks who say they
have not experienced this at all. I have been told there was some update
and now this is the way it is, but no one has a real answer. Even the folks
who say this is the way it is now... have told me they can still left click
and download files.
Another weird thing I have started experiencing..........
When I see a graphic and it says larger image...you are suppose to be able
to left click on it and see a larger image pop up in another window. This
happen about 50% if the time for me. I have asked a friend of mine while we
were on MSN to do the same thing I was. Low and behold, she could get every
single one to open..and I could get about half of them.
This is also recent I believe. I did have a problem where I could not see
any of the larger images, but when I checked with others and saw they could
see them, I finally found a setting that was not allowing this. Danged if I
remember what it was, but I got it fixed. If I could see none of the larger
images, I could understand something was set wrong and look for a fix, which
is what I did previously. This sometimes thing is driving me nuts. To
confuse matters more. Sometimes I can see the larger image on a second
visit to the a site... and then maybe or maybe not the next time. I cannot
find any consistency to this...! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
I have run full virus scans. I have up to date virus definitions. I have
run adaware. Doing these things has not changed this behavior. I have a
3.2 Sony Computer with 3 GB of DDR dual channel ram. I have run clean just
before trying these steps.
Any help or direction you can give me will be most appreciated.
Thanks
Rose
