-=PCTechTalk=- Bat files don't work in WinXP?

OK, I set up an Autoexec ".bat" type file in the C:\ drive of my WinXP pc to
clear certain files. But clicking on it only flashes a DOS black screen and
does nothing else... Is it because WinXP does not accept ".bat" files now?
I notice that in WinXP, "C:\" is not at the top of the Explorer tree
anymore; perhaps ".bat" files need to be saved somewhere else then to
operate correctly?
Also, the "Documents and Settings" file name, is that perhaps too big for
DOS? Should it be changed maybe to "Docume~1" ?? (And "Local Settings" to
"Local~1") ??
Thanks,
drummer
