-=PCTechTalk=- Are checkdisk and scandisk the same?

Hi,
I'm running Windows NT and trying to do a scan disk. I can't find where to tell
it to run one. On Symantec's website in an article about troubleshooting when
you think the virus scan is not running to completion, one of the things it
suggests is to run a scan disk. It says to go to Start, Programs, Accessories,
System Tools, Scan Disk. There is no system tools option in accessories on my
computer. There is a Administrative Tools (Common) option which contains Disk
Administrator and also Windows NT Diagnostics but neither of these are what I
want. I shut the computer off without using the Start menu to try to force it
to do a scan disk but it just did a check disk. This didn't take long to run
and was different than the scan disk I am used to on my computer with Windows
95. Are check disk and scan disk basically the same? Should I go into MS DOS
prompt and tell it to do a scan disk there for each drive?
Thank you,
Wendy
