Hi Ellen,
Wednesday, March 11, 2009, 7:59:21 AM, you wrote:

I see a similar message on some banking and other secure web siteswhen
the page has been sitting for too long, but that doesn't sound like
your problem.
Do you actually get logged off? If you do, you MIGHT be able to abort
with this commend (needs to run as administrator):
SHUTDOWN -A
If that doesn't work, try opening Notepad or Wordpad and typing
something. When it prompts to save (as part of the logoff process),
cancel it; that will cancel the logoff.
Check the event log to see if there's anything interesting.
You might run TASKMGR and look at the Processes tab to see if anything
looks unfamiliar.
Run WindowsUpdate and install any important updates (don't bother with
optional or drivers).
Run Secunia's Software Inspector and update anything that it
reports:
http://secunia.com/software_inspector.
Run CCleaner, both the file and registry clean. Don't forget to run
the registry clean until it quits complaining.
Run this to take care of any pending tasks:
windir%\System32\cmd.exe /C %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe
advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks
Go into the AntiVir settings and turn on heuristics on HIGH, then run
a full scan. Do the same with Comodo and Windows Defender.
Also, check out these utilities:
ComboFix is a utility that repairs a number of problems automatically,
but other than that, should only be used under the direction of
someone familiar with it.

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware is free for passive use (not background)
and cleans out stuff that others miss (although some of it is odds-n-ends).

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
