Hello all, hope everyone is in good fettle.
Is it possible to set up a wireless router with no "base station"?
I've always just set up as a home network, with the router hard wired into a
main PC and all other laptops and PCs connected via the wireless system.
Yesterday, someone asked me if I could set his security settings for him, yes
no problem, till I got there and he wanted to get rid of an old PC and just
have the laptop connected via the wireless router with the router only
connected to his cable modem.
All the ones I've set up, Linksys and Belkin, always show you connecting the
router to a fixed base station PC. his router is a Zoom something or other and
the set up disc is a bit primitive but reading the booklet, it indicates that
you have to have a base PC to hard wire it too, but his son, apparently had
someone set up his single laptop via the wireless network with the router
connected to nothing but the modem?
All suggestions appreciated.
Billy

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
