[pchelpers] Re: win 98 first edition

I recently installed win98SE on an older computer. (the same one ReNa is
working on).

Win98 only offered 16 colors for the video card. This made for LOUSY
pictures. I looked at the Video card and noted the brand & model #. I
happened to have a c.d. that came with a different video card of the same
brand (S3). I looked through the c.d. and found a driver that I hoped would
work. (the c.d. did not cover the exact video card that I had.) Anyway, the
first driver that I tried worked even though I got a message saying that
this driver was not written specificaly for this hardware. Now win98 offers
us "32bit true color".

Probably, some of you Tech-no-wizards scoff at the "fly by the seat of your
pants" approach, but it worked this time.
However, YOU BETTER KNOW THE LOCATION OF YOUR OLD DRIVER BEFORE YOU TRY A
NEW DRIVER just in case it does not work.

Smiles, J. Setcer
