[pchelpers] Re: win 98 first edition

Jackie,

Many times when video goes bad with Win 98 it means that you have lost the
video driver for plug and play. While many different video drivers will
work, make sure that you use the plug and play one this will give you almost
unlimited colors and solve the very same problem that I had and had to fix.

Subject: [pchelpers] win 98 first edition

Hi:
My sister has the first edition of win 98 - At first she told me everything
was so large on her computer well we got fixed that over the phone -its
normal -right now - she has only 256 color; 16 bit color ;and she said she
have 24 bit true color-- she did have 32 bit too its not there either -- her
resolution is 800x 600 she has a 17 in monitor. She said the color isn't as
nice as before. .Probably the driver of the graphic card is corrupted or
gone-- she has done not done scandisk and defragmentation, she probably has
oodles of tmp files and etc I told her to do both- she scan the disk but
now she can't use her maintenance wizard it only goes to 10 %-- I can't
travel to her place right now I am not well enough I wonder if you give me
some suggestions. I will have to walk her through this over the phone
(shudder) Last time I was there I had to reinstall her windows-- I was able
to save everything fortunately The grand kids were playing with her
computer then hehehe!!! . I was trying to get her to run windows setup <G>
I thought that would solve the problems I am also wondering if her graphics
card might be going-- or something else I might have missed. I would
appreciate any help. Thanks-- Jackie
