Your problem, Pen, may be with the installation
of the Google search bar into your Internet Explorer browser.
Why not uninstall it & see if your "Back" button returns?
If you hit the down arrow on the Google name at the place where you put in
your search criteria you will see a list of options. Uninstall is at the
bottom.

It also may be that the "Back" button is simply hidden. If you were to take
your mouse pointer & "grab" that movable line along the tool bar (probably
on the top left of your browser tool bar) you could uncover it.
