WinRAR is not free. There's a 40-day trial, after which you'll have to
pay about 30 euros (which is quite a bit more in dollars these days). I
don't know if you can just keep using it after the trial period, for
example by clicking OK on some nag screen, like most people do with
WinZip. I switched to UltimateZip years ago and never looked back. It's
much better.

A few years ago i looked around for open source and other alternatives,
and i sent a summary of my research last year in January. I'll forward
it after sending this. The best one was 7-Zip, but i still haven't had
time to try it out. Wikipedia has a good chart, but it's missing
UltimateZip and FreeZip for some strange reason:

Hopefully this is not a Thunderbird problem. Have you tried first saving
the attachment somewhere else on your hard drive and then opening it
with ICEOWS? Have you compacted TB regularly?

Did you take a look at the settings box to see if there's something
obvious that needs adjusting or answering?

Have you tried running a registry cleaner before reinstalling, and have
you tried installing the latest version? Could be that the glitch has
been fixed: http://www.iceows.com/HomePageUS.html

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
