Hi
I'm experiencing the following strange and interesting problems after
reinstalling Windows 98:
Trojan Hunter http://www.misec.net/ stopped working even though the
trial period is not up. Uninstalling and reinstalling Trojan Hunter
didn't work, not even running registry cleaners before reinstalling,
setting back the date, or deleting the program folder after uninstalling.
It seems there is some cunning way that this program counts the number
of days it's been used and stores the info where neither manual searches
for the company or program name or registry cleaners find it. Apparently
this count gets messed up and produces a veto of sorts when the registry
is deleted due to a reinstall.
I expect the company may answer an email once the holidays are over, but
i'd like to return this computer sooner than that.
Unbrand http://www.local.nu/HelpDesk/index.php/Windows_cleanup can't get
rid of the ISP name in the IE title bar. This is only a minor nuisance
but very interesting.
It was a major nuisance before because i couldn't even get rid of the
annoying Internet connection wizard that kept popping up and trying to
connect to the ISP by dial-up when i tried to start IE. When i
interrupted that, it always closed IE. It seems the cause of that
problem was that Windows 98 can't take more than 4 entries in the
broadband network adapter's properties and then doesn't show a local
area connection in network connections even when the network adapter is
installed correctly. Once i deleted the dial-up adapter, IE discovered
the broadband connection.
PS: On the topic of strange and interesting problems, here's another
one. AVG's rescue disks found but didn't delete 3 trojans. I had to do
that manually in DOS.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
