[pchelpers] unable to send/receive emails through software

Help, cannot send or receive emails, can go to webmail at clear.net.nz
and check and send emails.   What is happening at home to my computer?
Running Windows XP, have uninstalled Zone alarm and another program
similar (son installed them).   Now keep getting timing out message from
server, or unable to connect.   Have rung the help line and all my
setting are correct.  What is wrong with my machine.  (will have to go
to webmail to get any replies)
