I agree with Ekhart; I have so little trouble with viruses and
spyware that I was running with neither for about half a year.  When I
finally got around to installing, I found...nothing.

If you have a lot of trouble, then you should try doing most things
under a Restricted User account, or moving to Vista (if you haven't
already), which explicitly asks for your permission before giving
access to any application that wants extra access.
