Do these programs find anything on your computer? It's true that if your
computer is infected with spyware, it's necessary to scan it with at
least 3 different antispyware programs (in addition to at least one
antivirus and one antitrojan program). But only one should be running in
the background providing realtime protection against new infections. And
as far as i know, Windows Defender is by far the best free antispyware
providing RT protection.
On the other hand, although i think most people should get RT
antispyware protection, i've given up scanning my computer for spyware
and have no antispyware running in the background since my computer
always comes up clean. But then again i don't install anything before
checking to make sure it's from a reliable source.
Does the old AVG Antispyware still get definition updates?! Otherwise
it's useless. A-squared is mostly antitrojan. What do you mean with
"Antivir activeguard"? Do you mean the RT protection called Guard of
Avira's antivirus program AntiVir Personal? That has only very limited
spyware detection but excellent virus detection.

I find people who make spyware to be much worse than those making
trojans or viruses. And even worse damage in terms of wasted time and
efforts and even in terms of sickness and deaths due to blocked hospital
switchboards etc. is caused by the innocent people unknowingly and
naively spreading hoaxes and false information about all kinds of
malware. In fact, some experts say that the malware writers actually do
society as a whole a great favor by keeping it on its toes; unless
businesses and government agencies had been subjected to malware written
by amateurs for many years they would never have even noticed or been
able to defend themselves against sophisticated attacks by Chinese
government employees and the Russian mafia etc.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
