There may be a lot of reasons for that. Numbers are growing, but so are
the methods. One recently had a spam bot planted on his server. It sent
out the vilest messages until the owner found out. He was most
apologetic.
At present I block at least 30 addresses each day (permanently) but next
day there are more to replace them. Many send mail from autoresponders,
some of which don't seem to take no for an answer. Others yet hide their
email addresses by forging mail headers, so when you write back the
message is returned 'address unknown'. What must they be thinking?
