As soon as you press Ctrl+s, any message you are writing is saved in the
Drafts folder. And then you can see its size too.

...and if you haven't attached anything from a different folder in
between, you can see the size of any file in the folder you got it from
by repressing the paper clip icon. That reopens the folder, and if you
click on the dialog box's little icon in the top right corner called
Menu Menu and then Details, you get the file size information right from
*Windows* Explorer

Look in the Drafts folder; that's where what you're writing on is stored.
