Just sent the following to the author of
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Thanks for the best explanation of sfc on the Internet, but you
unfortunately don't provide help for SP2. If the computer was not
updated from SP1 and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup
\ServicePackSourcePath
is pointing to the location C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles , one continues
to be asked for the XP CD even if one applied all the changes in your
article. Apparently computers with direct installs of SP2 don't have a
folder called C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles and their
ServicePackSourcePath is pointed to d:\
So the solution to get rid of the CD prompt is to change that value also
to c:\
What should be the value for ServicePackCache?

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
