[pchelpers] quoting old messages

Moderation was not declined - on the contrary, it was necessary because
you quoted too much (broke the quote rule). Moderation means that the
moderator has to deal with your message because it doesn't conform to
some list rule. And you are not kicked off any list because of a minor
mistake like overquoting unless you do it or other things repeatedly
that waste the time of a list's moderator or members or otherwise
repeatedly ignore a moderator's requests or rules.

Since list members reading your answer in no way needed any part of the
message you were responding to in order to understand your answer, it's
a good thing that your answer was first automatically blocked and that
you then resent it without quoting the message you were responding to.
Quoting the entire original is rarely a good idea, and if it's long,
your message is automatically rejected. Even quoting *parts* of old
messages is only a good idea when it helps readers understand your
answer and when it doesn't waste their time and increase the hardware
costs of Freelists.org.

It's best to add your answer right *after* the relevant part (and delete
irrelevant parts) - that way, people don't waste time skipping back and
forth between your answer and the original and don't waste time trying
to find parts of the original that explain your answer.

John explains the procedure here:

John, It might be a good idea to add that link to the list signature.
And the quoting process would be much easier to understand if you added
an empty line between each answer and the next quote on that webpage.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
