[pchelpers] Re: question

Subject to what others say: yes and no. I have been able to do this with
older operating systems up to win98. Many microsoft applications won't
install correctly when transferred by drag and drop - something to do with
the registry i think. I have not successfully done a drag and drop copy with
win2K or XP.
However if you have a program like Norton Ghost or similar drive cloning
program, it is very effective. I have used Ghost to transfer complete drive
contents when upgrading drive capacities and also for making complete system
copies as emergency backup drives. That is where a critical machine can be
crash proofed by having a duplicate drive ready to install at a moment's
notice.
The key element is that the file structure must be an image of the file
structure to ensure that all the programs work correctly.

I hope that helps.

Cheers

Subject: [pchelpers] question

I have a question about something I've always wondered about but never
tried. Here goes.
Can you take a formatted HDD, link it as a slave, then connect to a PC and
drag and drop the PC's Cdrive contents to the slave HDD.....then take out
this drive, Link it to become a master and then remove the original Cdrive
and replace with the one you've just copied the contents to and will this
new drive boot up and work as the new HDD in your PC?

Billy

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
