[pchelpers] question

I have a question about something I've always wondered about but never tried. 
Here goes.
Can you take a formatted HDD, link it as a slave, then connect to a PC and drag 
and drop the PC's Cdrive contents to the slave HDD.....then take out this 
drive, Link it to become a master and then remove the original Cdrive and 
replace with the one you've just copied the contents to and will this new drive 
boot up and work as the new HDD in your PC?
