I agree with Ekhart; simply having lots of stuff on the hard drive
shouldn't slow things down, unless the free space is too low and/or
files/free space are noticeable fragmented.

Having lots of junk in various caches and temporary folders can slow
things down, but the disk cleanup wizard and/or CCleaner can zap that
stuff.

I know CCleaner has been mentioned here before. Here's the page for
it: http://www.ccleaner.com

Installing programs can slow things down to some extent, but in
general it should not be a noticeable extent, unless it loads things
at startup or whatever. A simple application, such as a game, should
never slow things down. Programs that hook into the OS can slow things
down, depending upon how much they hook in.

If your drive uses NTFS (instead of the older FAT system), then you
can compress files (the names are marked blue, unless you turn the
color off) or you can encrypt files (the names are marked green,
unless you turn the color odd), or neither, but not both.

Encryption means that only you (or someone else with the password to
the account) can access the files in question. Resetting the password
for the account means that you can't access the files anymore, unless
you happen to have made a recovery disk. It appears that System
Restore can also restore access, by means of changing the password
back. I'd really suggest that you find other means to restrict access
to any files that you don't want others to get into.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
