Hi Pen,

I'm surprised that installing the software slowed it down as much as
you seem to think. I'd suspect something else, such as fragmentation,
or junk in the registry and temporary folders. A run with CCleaner
may help.
Compression can help speed up access to files if it takes less time to
read the compressed data and uncompress it, than it takes to read all
of the uncompressed data. This depends upon the relative speeds of the
CPU/memory and the hard drive; if the hard drive is relatively faster
than the CPU/memory, than compressing will slow things down, and vice
versa.
Undoing the compression will probably undo the gain in space. To find
out how much space you're saving, mark all of the compressed files and
right-click, and select Properties. You'll see "Size" and "Size on
disk". Subtract to see approximately how much you're saving (you're
actually saving a bit more, but can't tell how much more without
actually uncompressing). Usually, "Size on disk" is larger than
"Size".
While on the subject, green means that a file is encrypted. I'd
recommend not encrypting files unless you really feel a need to.
