[pchelpers] Re: [pchelpers]

You could have a bit of both here. It's possible a hardware problem
brought about the shut down problem, which in turn damaged some files
when you were forced to pull the plug.

It's also possible file damage or bad sectors caused the software
problem. Other hardware trouble may be additional. Whatever it is, it's
important to get the hardware working first, then deal with the
software.

Stage 1: Power off. Disconnect the hard drive IDE cable. Put a boot disk
in drive A: and see if it will boot to a simple prompt. If everything
behaves well, run a few checks (checkit.exe or other hardware checker).
If not, you need to begin swapping out boards until the trouble is
found. Something may need replacing.

Stage 2: Once the hardware works, re-connect the hard drive. Re-detect
it in BIOS if required. Boot again with the floppy and see if the C:
drive is visible with a DIR C: command. If it is, run
SCANDISK C:
After all that is complete, you need to try the boot from hard drive. It
is only at this point that patches or re-installs should be considered.

Any more questions- ask the team!
