I had a problem setting up my dad's new camera; it came with the right
CD, according to the CD label, but the software on the CD wasn't the
version advertised on the CD label!  The software was a version that
didn't know about USB.  I poked around online, and found a program that
was even better for what they wanted.

Look in Device Manager to see if the camera is listed there.

What version of Windows do you have?  If you have 95 or original 98, you
may have a problem.

Depending upon the camera driver (maybe can get a newer driver version),
it may not be recognized by Windows as a capture device.

Also, different cameras hook into Windows in different ways.  It looks
like many of them nowadays appear as if they were drives, so you can
drag pictures on and off the drive.
