What you need to do is get NETBEUI on all three computers. In XP it
isn't installed. You have to install
it by hand. You can find it on the XP cd under: Valueadd\MSFT\NET\Netbeui
There is a text file that shows you where to copy the two files
* copy nbf.sys into the %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ directory (
Normally C:\windows )
* copy netnbf.inf into the %SYSTEMROOT%\INF\ directory ( Make sure
hidden files are turned off or you won't see this folder )
* open network connection properties and use "Install..." button to add
NetBEUI protocol
Now go to your network connection and rt click and pick "Properties"
Under the list of installed protocols click the "Install" button, now
the "Protocol" button.
Now you should see the option to pick NetBEUI and install it.
Reboot all three computers and that should fix everything.
Things to check out:
1. be sure you have something shared on all three computers.
2. In the Explorer window, rt click on the "My Network Places" folder
and pick "Search for computers"
Type in the name of the computer. If it finds the computer and it isn't
listed in your "Network Places" then you
have a Driver/Protocol problem.
3. As a test turn off all firewalls on all computers.
4. see if you can ping the computers. In your "network connections" click
on your connection. Now a box should open
up on the left side showing you your details for that connection,
including it's Network IP address
5. Be sure that all three computers are in the same workgroup. And have
different IP addresses.
6. check the setting in your router. Last week I lost my network and
found out that my router got reset to factory settings
which made me have 2 DHCP servers on my network. Which reminds me. Look
in your event viewer for any clues as to
what might be wrong. My viewer had a message telling me that my network
had two DHCP servers and that it was shutting
the one on my computer down. "Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Event
Viewer
I think I covered everthing

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
