I don't see where you say that Windows can access the files fine; have
you checked that you can actually read the files with Windows? Looking
at the folder and file names is not the same as reading the files. If
you can't read from B, then try again from A.

There are a number of carefully-split hairs involved when it comes to
permissions.  A change that one would think would not affect a certain
program can indeed cause problems.
