[pchelpers] Re: need simple way to internet connect Windows 95 and XP systems.

Lou,
First let me say that buying the router will do what you want and More!
If you plug both machines into the router so both of your machines can get
on the internet you will actually be networked and you can copy things
straight from machine to machine about 100 times faster.

Now as to my question, you said that the Win95 machine was to be temp. as
you were replacing it so as soon as that is done you have no need of a
router for anything. Extra charge for nothing.. You gain nothing from in
on an XP machine by it self.

The 'big telephone end " is the network cable that ties things together.
Since you have one in your 95 machine already there is no cost there. A
cross over cable is just like the ones you have except that 2 wires are in a
different position. You should be able to go to a computer store and they
should have one on the shelf or make one in10 min. Connection sharing is
just a program that you run on your XP machine, pretty self explanatory in
the help file. The only cost you have is the cross-over cable.

So don't get me wrong, that the router is wrong. there is just two ways of
doing what you want. One might be easier like you say and one is going to
be less expensive, and maybe a little more challenging. Either way, you
will end up with the two computers networked together, Forget the e-mail
thing. (In my opinion :-))
