PCCowboy had a nice description of how to set up XP's Internet Connection
Sharing=0D
(ICS) for a dial-up connection. This would be OK assuming Lou's cable/DSL
connection=0D
was on a non-ethernet port (eg USB). If the cable modem has an Ethernet (
large=0D
phone-type", RJ45) connection, things are quite different. To use crossov=
er=0D
cables & ICS, etc would require the XP to have a 2nd NIC connected to the
cable/DSL=0D
modem. The router is by far the simplest solution here installation-wise,=
 as=0D
Lou only has to set up each machine as though it's talking direct to the
Internet.=0D
Assuming the router acts like an Ethernet hub, he gets LAN connectivity a=
s a=0D
bonus when he feels like setting it up.=0D
