I went through this a couple of months ago. I started my computer and it just
rebooted
over and over without even getting to the OS screen. It wasn't hard-ware.
Somehow
the boot-up part of the system got corrupted. I couldn't do a thing, I couldn't
even
get to safe-mode cause it to just rebooted over and over. In my case I
re-installed
XP on top of itself and it fixed the problem. I couldn't use the repair consol
cause I
couldn't get any of my passwords to work to let me in. Turns out there wasn't a
password.
Since then I have learned how to run system restore from a Dos prompt. Here are
the instructions
on how to do it.
How to Start the System Restore Tool from the Command Prompt
System Restore is a great feature in XP, but if you aren't able to boot into
the Windows GUI normally or in Safe Mode, how can you use it? Here are the
instructions for starting System Restore from the command prompt:
1.. Start your computer with a boot disk or by selecting Safe Mode with
Command Prompt from the startup menu.
2.. When the command prompt is displayed, type the following:
[systemroot]\system32\restore\rstrui.e x e (the system root folder is the
folder to which you installed the XP operating system files, usually
c:\windows).
3.. Press Enter.
4.. Now you can follow the instructions on the screen to use System Restore
to restore your computer to a previous functional state.
If you have problems with System Restore, see KB article 302796,

Perhaps, PC, but without Bob's input I would know less about possible causes
and courses of action. I'm not going to be in a hurry to get rid of my reset
button but at least my bag isn't so woefully empty as it was starting out.
:-) What are your thoughts about the problem? C'mon guys, fill me up. This
could happen again and I don't want to be sitting here feeling like a
complete idiot and wondering how I'll afford a pc repair bill like I was
this morning.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
