[pchelpers] Re: my password problem

Jonathan,

I looked into the network setup a little further and found that if you do
not setup shared files "before" the setup of the network this may or may not
cause problems. Also if any folder is setup and a non-share folder, all its
sub folders cannot be shared as well.

It appears that somewhere along the line the Win 98 machine has been setup
before its integration into the network to have passwords protecting access
to certain documents or folders. If a certain document in a given folder is
password protected, then for the purpose of the network all files in that
folder need the same password. I realize this sounds a bit confusing, but we
are talking about Microsoft here.

I hope this added tidbit helps you to solve your problems.

J Ford

Thanks John I will read the article then try the wizard again.

I ran the wizard first on the xp computer. then took the resulting floppy
and ran it on the win 98 computer. That is when the gateway to the internet
was created. It works fine. However, asking the win 98 computer to look at
shared files on the xp machine still gave the same "need password" window
that I had before I tried the network wizard.

Next time I may run the wizard again and try different options or something.
Or, better yet, follow the instructions I will find in the article.

it will be a couple of days until i have time to read the article you found
for me then try again.

I will report back in a couple of days.

Thanks for the advice.

p.s. Thanks also to Jackie for the printer drivers idea. After I get the
file sharing corrected, If that does not also correct the printer problem,
I will impliment your dual driver instructions.
