[pchelpers] Re: my password problem

Jonathan,

I did a little research about your problem and I found that you must use the
Windows XP Wizard to setup your client computers on your home network. This
can be accomplished one of two different ways. First you can just use the
Win XP CD-ROM in each of your client computers and run the wizard for
networking, or when you run the Wizard from your host computer, the wizard
will allow you to create a floppy disk that must be run from each client
computer. I hope this helps you correct your problem. I believe that you are
experiencing a conflict between operating systems and the floppy disk or
CD-Rom should solve this for you . I am including an article for your review
of the step-by-step procedure for setting up a network at home.

The address is as follows:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/using/howto/homenet/default.asp

Please let us know if this resolved your problem.

John F

Subject: [pchelpers] my password problem

this is making me crazy! I am missing some little something.

i have my win XP computer networked "pier to pier" with my daughter's Win 98
computer. From my XP computer i can access all the shared files on her
win98 computer.

(Here's the problem): When my daughter tries to access my XP computer from
her sin98 computer a box pops up asking for a password. NONE of the
passwords that we are using on either comuter work.
(she IS logging onto the win 98 computer at start up).

aside:
Funny thing: Win XP Wizard set up a "remote gateway" so my daughter can
use the modem and dialup internet connection in my computer. This works
just fine. When she clicks on I.E it automaticly connects her to the
internet through my modem. When she finishes there is a little "double
computer monitor" icon beside the clock that she clicks then chooses
"disconnect".

When she trys to print, the same "password box" pops up and will not accept
any password. I have the same users with the same passwords listed on both
computers. I have lots of files shared on the XP computer for her to see

I have tried everything i can think of.

any suggestions? Please!

thanks,
J. Setcer
