Just helped someone switch from the Mozilla suite to Firefox and
experienced the following:
Norton Internet Security let Firefox access the Internet for more than
10 minutes before asking what to do. During that time, Firefox worked
sluggishly but was able to send and especially receive large amounts of
data (OpenOffice, Windows Defender, Thunderbird, SpywareBlaster).
The computer owner recounted that she ended up paying twice for Norton
because the version she first installed, Norton 2004, which came with
the computer, was "incorrect". She was also told she couldn't get a
refund because she'd already activated the "incorrect" version. Any not
sloppily run company would automatically offer a refund or at least ask
some questions when they noticed that the same person activated two
different versions within a few weeks.
There was a suspicious file called fddli_1200_Mw_s_Inst-79.exe on the
desktop that neither Windows Defender nor Ad-Aware found to be a
problem. Ewido identified it as "Adware.Gator".

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
