[pchelpers] memory strangness

I got a computer for a friend last year.
It was a Dell GX240 with 512mb  (2x256mb)
Yesterday she called me saying that it was running real slow.
No wonder, it was showing that it had only 256mb installed.
It lost 256mb.

So I put in 1gig (2x512)

Now the computer is showing 744mb.
256mb is still missing.

The book says the computer will take 1gig in 512mb in each slot.
I got 2 sticks of 512 SDRAM 133 LD in both slots.

Is it the memory controller or what?


BTW I found 512 SDRAM 133 HD for $3.95 with $6.99 shipping. on ebay.

But knowing how picky a Dell computer was when it came to RAM I stuck 
with the LD instead of the HD.
