Well, if it's for a one-time switch back to Outlook Express, not daily 
synchronisation, which is done differently, first installing Netscape 
Communicator and copying the files to it only adds a few minutes to OE's 
normal import procedure.

Since Thunderbird's email is stored in standard mbox format, OE should 
be able to import it, but it seems that Microsoft hasn't taught OE that 
it should also accept a file without a file extension as being in that 
format. Once Thunderbird gets to be as popular as Firefox, you can be 
sure that MS will quickly teach OE that simple "trick". In fact, the 
page http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq
claims OE and most other email programs can already do this "trick" if 
you point them directly to the correct files instead of the folder 
they're in. I'll have to ask why the page you quoted doesn't mention 
this method.
