There is a version of disk doctor that works with fat32 as well. I've got
it somewhere I think.
What does fdisk/mbr do? Maybe Johnathon could boot off a floppy and try.
The virus is called W32.magistr (not magistAr) and there is a good write up
on www.symantec.com. Johnathon might find that there is more damage than an
un-recoverable hdd since this virus can overwrite cmos as well. My guess is
that it is better to just grab the bull by the horns and get on with a fresh
install - then install an anti virus program!!!
