[pchelpers] Re: lost internet signal

Hi Ellen,
In addition to what John says, note that you can't keep a connection
while hibernating; your computer is off while in hibernation mode.

Go to Network Connections (in Control Panel), right-click on the icon
for your network connection, select Properties, and put a checkmark
in the box for "show icon in notification area when connected".

Then, when you return from hibernation or standby, you can right-click
on the icon in the lower-right corner of the screen and select
"Repair", which *should* fix the connection, if John's suggestion
doesn't help.

OK, Scott, I was already set up for the icon in the system tray. I'll try the
"repair" method next re-boot. (I think I've done that before & it made no
difference)

Does this WiFi have some configuration settings? If so, are
there any power saving ones? If there are, you may need to adjust them.

John, I don't know. It's kinda always searching for signal when it's on, so
it doesn't have to hold it when it sleeps. It should re-connect. Spelunking
around in the Network Connection properties' advanced tab I saw the firewall
options. I think after a while of inactivity, ZoneAlarm shuts down Internet
traffic. But that doesn't solve why I lose it when I go into Standby from an
active state. Where else might I find configurations - other than thru Control
Panel/Network Connections?

Cheers,
Ellen M.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
