[pchelpers] Re: just random rambling from Arkansas

Jonathan,

As the old saying goes "You Ain't seen Nothing Yet". We will all be
searching for answers for a long time to come in regards to XP. I guess it
will take Microsoft about 2 years to completely fix XP and then they will
have another edition that will drive us all crazy.

Your points about registration are pure works of fiction, "science fiction"
that is. It would be crazy for Microsoft to have such a tracking device for
every computer in the world, then again we are talking about Microsoft are
we not? Who knows what can happened, I would not hold my breath for the rest
of the time, you may turn blue and a human that is blue is an ugly thing.
Talk about rambling, I must be real tired. I am writing this at 12:43 in the
morning oh well have a nice day.

John F

Windows XP is still taking me for a ride. but I enjoy a challenge.......

I LOVE the "System Restore" feature. If Win 2000 has this I never found it.
This is not the same as "last known good configuration" in Win 2000. I
tried that, it never helped whatever my problem was at the time. Three
times now I have used "System restore" to rescue me. Yesterday I got a virus
from my mother. (that's right, my own mother sent me a virus using a
computer I bought for her and maintain for her). Anyway, I had 14 corrupted
files. I just did a "System Restore" to the day before and all is well.

I downloaded the AVG free antivirus software, ran the install program. It
said: installing... Then it removed my modem and told me to reboot my
computer to install the new drivers. I restarted but there WERE NO NEW
DRIVERS. I just did a "system restore" to the previous day and my modem
was back.

I clicked on/ highlighted the AVG install file, then right clicked, clicked
properties, clicked compatibility and chose "run this program in windows
2000 mode". When I ran the install program again the same thing happend as
before. So I did a "system restore" again and all is well again. I think I
am not going to use AVG antivirus.

After I killed out a virus last week I found and clicked a "delete all but
the most recent restore point". Otherwise, Norton's kept saying that there
was a virus in the "system restore backup folder", or something like that --
NOW I CAN NOT FIND WHERE TO DO THAT AGAIN. I have searched everywhere and
read all the help files.... So I went into the system volume information
folder, found the "restore point" that was created yesterday and deleted it.
Now if I open "system restore" it offers me all the other days for the last
two weeks, but not yesterday. Maybe that killed the restore information that
had the virus in it.

My C.D. copier software would not work so I downloaded a trial version of
ROXIO c.d. creater 5. It worked the one time that I used it so far.
However, someone told me that XP has its own c.d. writing software built in.
I haven't seen it, but I believe him.

Someone told me that XP would only run for 30 days unless you registered it.
I haven't registered mine. I am going to wait and see what happens. Today
is day 31. Tonight at Mid-night my monitor may turn into a pumpkin. Or
Bill gates may knock on my door tommorrow morning wanting to know what's
going on......
Someone else told me that you could install XP on a second computer after 40
days. I did not have time to quiz him to see where he got the information...
Something about Microsoft only stores your configuration information for 39
days, or something like that. Can you imigine how many Terrabites of
storage they will need to store the configuration information for EVERY
computer in the world that is running Windows XP by this time next year?!

Well, if you read this far you should be plenty sleepy. ...... I warned you
in the subject line that this post was just random rambling.....

 HAVE A GREAT DAY.
