Hi Ekhart,
I did give it a go again a few days ago and it mysteriously started 
working again.  Basically I found a similar thread as the one you 
describe above and tried the suggestion, including using a registry 
cleaner to delete any entries.  It seemed to work.  I can't say for sure 
why it's working now, except I did notice that when I re-installed the 
program, my Comodo firewall gave me far more alerts this time around, 
telling me AntiVir wanted to access the Internet (which obviously I 
accepted).  During the last installation, I got a few alerts but not 
nearly as many, which led to me think maybe there was an issue between 
AntiVir and my firewall.  Whatever the case, all seems well at present.
