[pchelpers] for people with Windows ME and 98

Hi everybody

This is your chance to take part in a historic moment. Since Microsoft
is so callous about user safety that they want to again wait several
weeks before they provide a patch, the private initiative of experts
called Zeroday Emergency Response Team (ZERT) http://isotf.org/zert/ has
decided to provide patches quickly now and in future similar serious
cases of a vulnerability already being exploited. This is slowly but
surely turning MS security patches or at least temporary ones into a
communal effort much like the open source movement. Looks like my
prediction of Windows slowly being turned into an open source project is
coming true :-) At the least, these private efforts are so embarrassing
for MS that they can't claim it takes them weeks to test what others get
done in less than 24 hours.

Apparently ZERT doesn't have any older computers, so here's where some
of you can make history. I've been corresponding with ZERT's operations
manager, and i've convinced him to consider adding support for 98 and
ME. He answered "Do you have DLL versions for windows 98 and ME for
vgx.dll ?"

Who can help out? Please send copies to me privately very soon and tell
me whether they're from 98 or ME.

I suppose vgx.dll will be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache in 98 and ME
as it is in XP. If you use the Search function, it's not enough to
search in hidden folders; you have to first make sure the system folders
aren't hidden in Windows Explorer's settings. (Or is that only a problem
in XP; i can't remember). You'll probably find at least one older
version too; please only send the newer version.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
